PostHeaderIcon Customize shipping containers to meet your needs

Before you purchase a shipping container you might be thinking of some uses for them.  In other words you know having one is a great idea but you just don’t know how it would be conducive to you.  Here are some ideas.  A lot of people are using the containers to build modular homes or offices, by converting the container which is basically adding doors, adding shelving, or even welding them together.  The containers are also being used in the education field as well; the education institutions are using the containers as classrooms and on campus storage.  You will even find the containers being used by clubhouses as ground care equipment storage.  Shipping containers also have many uses on a farm they can be converted and used as tack rooms, field shelters, stables, and even hay stores.  The shipping container is widely used on construction sites for secure storage and site accommodations sometimes even as a portable office.

PostHeaderIcon I lost my home but a shipping container saved my life

I lost my home in late March and had to move in with my wife’s mom and dad.  It was the worst time of my life.  My wife’s parents where saints for letting us move in with the kids, but I did not know what to do with all of our stuff.  We are a family of five and over the years as you can well imagine have collected quite a bit of valuables, the problem was my wife’s family did not have a big home so we didn’t have a place to store our valuables.  I heard from a family friend that purchasing a 40 foot shipping container was the way to go.  You pay a onetime fee and own the 40 foot shipping container outright.  The shipping container was delivered to my in-laws home and set perfectly right where we needed it.  It is in the backyard of their property.  It is so good to know that in harsh times like this we did not have to lose everything.

In this tough economy many business owners are worried about renting storage space because of the high costs.  A local thrift shop owner thought instead to use a cargo container as onsite storage for her business needs.  The cargo container is a good idea because not only is it vandal proof but it is also portable and fits right behind the shop.  The cargo containers itself was purchased used so it is also a great way to help keep the planet green.  The used containers are great because they are delivered bare so you can add-on items such as extra doors or perhaps even shelves, and lighting.  The thrift shop owner accommodated her own cargo container with a lock box, lighting and rods for hanging clothes. She could not be happier with her investment and suggests it to all small businesses.

PostHeaderIcon Save Money in Portland/Vancouver: Purchasing VS Renting

You might be thinking that you are ready for a storage container especially with all that junk you’ve been looking at every day.  The next question weighing on your mind is: Do I buy or lease a shipping container?  The answer is simple if you are in the business of saving money; you buy.  It would make more sense to purchase a used cargo container and convert it into a storage facility.  Not only will you save money but you will have purchased an investment you could likely sell if you don’t need it anymore.  Most companies that sell used cargo containers provide a guarantee that your container be wind and water tight.  This is important for security purposes and not to mention to keep your valuables clean and dry.  The only step you might have to do is consider add-ons which will be shelves for organization, lock boxes for added security, perhaps even a new paint job. You will pay less to have all of this done and have the container delivered to your site than you would pay to rent a container each month.

So with the end of the world coming in 2012 do you have all of your ducks in a row?  I often wondered this myself until I really made myself think about what I would do if disaster struck. I was talking to a couple of friends about the 2012 situation and they suggested turning a 40 foot shipping container into a underground bunker.  I thought that it sounded like a good idea myself and looked into the logistics of it.  My online research went well and I am now in the midst of preparing for 2012 with my 40 foot shipping container that I just recently purchased for use as an underground bunker.

My wife and I recently decided to take a road trip around the country.  We figured we would be gone for about six months but we wanted to make sure our house full of belongings would remain fresh so we decided to purchase a storage bin to keep all of our favorite belongings in.  We found a wonderful company online called Global Logistics Croup The company was easy to find and very professional.  We asked the Sue about purchasing a storage container and were told that a lot of people are actually doing the same thing as we were.  Well that excited us very much so we decided to go ahead and purchase the storage container.  We got a great deal on the container.  We purchased a 40 X 8 feet wide steel container that held all of our belongings perfectly.  We were told by Sue that the storage container we were purchasing was grade “a” which meant that it was guaranteed not to have nay holes or leaks.  The storage container itself was constructed of Corten steel which is known for its weathering capability.  This was very important to me because we were going to be gone for so long and I wanted to make sure that our valuables were protected.  The storage container was fitted with four vents on the inside top of the bin this is to make sure that your valuables do not end up with mildew or anything.  The container itself was empty with nothing inside meaning shelves, rods and such.  This at first concerned us but the company took care of that for us.  They added shelving, Man Door, and rods so we could hang up clothes and draperies; all of this for a small fee.  We also had the company put a lockbox on which I would suggest that everyone do, just because you could never be too safe.  The added lockbox with the existing four point locking bar was enough to make us both feel very secure.  The company delivered the storage container to our property and put it directly where we wanted it which pleased us immensely all we had to do was put down Blocks or you can go without as the ground is level.  We put a Blocks on each corner . We purchased the storage container a few months ago and recently started packing it with our valuables.  Honestly things could not have worked out better.  I would recommend this idea to anyone out there who does long term traveling like we do.

PostHeaderIcon Shipping containers as modular units for building a home

Are you wondering why there are so many of these shipping containers available today? Well because of the trade in the U.S. today these cargo containers are turning up in ports everywhere. Actually there is a surplus of them.

So what do we do with them? Many environmentalists are looking into that as we speak. One of the ideas is to make modular homes out of these strong yet versatile steel boxes. Essentially what is done is the container is cut to make windows and doors and then the electrical wiring is run through.

Then you would add the flooring, drywall, and insulation. You could stack them on top of each other which is very safe because the corners are very structural or just have a single layer home. And that is it. You have yourself a brand new home for half the price it would cost to purchase a conventional one.

PostHeaderIcon What To with a used 40′ container?

There are lots to do with used 40ft containers. Many use them to store valuables such as tools, home storage, sporting equipment, cars, construction debris, etc. and the list goes on and on. One of the nice thing about using a cargo container is that they are virtually weather tight. This is because the containers are constructed out of what is known as corten steel a type of weathering steel which is known to regenerate continuously when subjected to the influence of the weather. This means that the container will never rust all the way through. This makes for a perfect storage of valuables.

PostHeaderIcon Where to buy a used shipping container

My husband had been looking for a used shipping container to use for storage for quite some time.  We ended up getting one for a great price.  The initial idea was to rent a container being we were only going to use it for awhile.  We were cleaning out our garage and needed to put all of our things into something in the meanwhile.  We ended up purchasing a container from a company called Globallogistics Group We are very happy with the container and are glad we did not rent.  The price we ended up paying was such a steal, we would have lost money if we decided to rent.  If you are in the market for a reliable and inexpensive container I would go with these guys.
